About us

The International Pharmacotherapy Education and Research Initiative (IPERI) is a globally recognized organization originating from a collaborative project between the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Zimbabwe Faculty of Health Sciences and the University at Buffalo, New York, School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Co-led by Professor Charles Maponga and Professor Gene Morse, IPERI was established in 2002 as a post-doctoral fellowship training program to support Zimbabwe’s national antiretroviral rollout program. Over time, it has gained significant international recognition, becoming notarized in 2010 and registered as a Trust in 2018. The initiative has successfully managed grants from the United States National Institutes of Health, the Fogarty International Center (including UZ-UB ICHART, AITRP, and HRTP), as well as local and international sources. Its research focuses include nutritional pharmacology, complementary medicine, behavioral health, cancer, and virology, driven by a multidisciplinary team of pharmacologists, nutritionists, pediatricians, psychiatrists, oncologists, social scientists, public health experts, and laboratory scientists. IPERI continues to lead in implementation research and clinical advancements, fostering collaborations that address global health challenges.
