University of Zimbabwe International Pharmacology Specialty Laboratory (UZ-IPSL)

Our History

The laboratory started as an initiative of the International Pharmacotherapy Education and Research initiative (IPERI) Trust, located within the Drug and Toxicology Information Service, within the University of Zimbabwe’s Clinical Trials Research Centre. Using donated equipment, the laboratory managed to pass the developmental stage of CPQA and is now a fully functional laboratory.

Established in 2005, UZ-IPSL has grown from a small research unit to a comprehensive international laboratory with state-of-the-art facilities. Our journey reflects our dedication to excellence in pharmaceutical research and education, with significant contributions to the field of pharmacology both locally and globally.

UZ-IPSL

Numerous drug development studies and evaluations are conducted in regions lacking a specialized pharmacology laboratory. This need led to the establishment of the International Pharmacology Specialty Laboratory (IPSL) in Zimbabwe. The laboratory began as an initiative of the International Pharmacotherapy Education and Research Initiative (IPERI) Trust, based within the Drug and Toxicology Information Service, utilizing donated equipment. The IPSL was developed in collaboration with the University of Zimbabwe and the University at Buffalo Center for Integrated Global Biomedical Sciences. Pharmacology Specialty Laboratories (PSLs) play a pivotal role in drug development by conducting research on bioavailability, drug–drug interactions, and determining pharmacokinetic parameters crucial for assessing drug safety and efficacy.

Vision

The University of Zimbabwe International Pharmacology Specialty Laboratory is dedicated to advancing pharmaceutical research, education, and global health solutions.
